The Evil Genius In the Line of Fire
The picture is slowly coming into focus in the case of the U.S. Attorney firings. It's now become pretty clear what's been going on: Turd Blossom, a.k.a. Karl Rove, and his deputies traveled to various agencies throughout the government, lecturing management there about Republicans' political prospects. The idea was ultimately to maintain the Republican stranglehold on all three branches of government, to cover up and prevent investigation and prosecution of Republican corruption, and to cast a shadow over Democrats wherever possible, regardless of whether or not it was justified. Direct orders were never quite given, as that would have been a blatant violation of the Hatch Act (which forbids the use of government resources for political ends), but blunt hints certainly were made.
