Case Study: jamiedoris.com

This is my personal weblog. It contains semi-regular journal entries, a photo gallery, a travel journal, and code samples. It has been through many changes over the years, and has gone through two major redesigns. The current incarnation is built on a framework of Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP, like most of the sites I am building lately.
A previous version of the site was based on Cold Fusion and MS SQL Server, and at one time I was pubilshing content using a nice blogging system called Movable Type. But being the tinkerer that I am, I have settled on my own custom publishing and content management tools in PHP/MySQL. Initially the concept for this new system was based, at least in part, on the Movable Type concept. The idea was to create a blog tool, where myself and a select few other contributors could log in from any location at any time and add a journal entry, or a gallery photo. Over time the tool evolved into something much more versatile.
The illustration shows a sample of the current designs used -- the home page, part of a travel log, the "Geek" page, where I share code samples and developer ideas, the photo gallery, and a screenshot of the content tool itself.
